Why 8,000 steps a day? What science actually says

The famous 10,000-steps-a-day target comes from a 1960s Japanese marketing campaign, not science.

Recent studies show that benefits start at around 4,000 steps, plateau around 8,000, 10,000, and that 8,000 is the realistic sweet spot for most desk workers.
